Celebrating Klara's Final Profession in Brno

Language icon Klara dances her self gift and her joy

It is hard to put into words the wonder and the joy experienced by all who participated in Klara’s Final Vow ceremony on September 22nd 2018.

Very few of the  people who filled the church had ever witnessed a final profession before.  It gave a powerful witness.

The photo shows Klara with her parents, Marie and Stan, in the entrance procession.

To see a beautiful young woman answering God’s Call, to give herself totally and forever in the Religious Life, is not a common experience now in Europe.

Klara, dressed in a flowing,  pale blue dress, made by her aunt,  pronounced her vows, the desires of her heart, in the presence of Sr Marie Pitcher, Institute Leader, and then, at the Offertory,  danced to express her self-gift and her joy.  Many were moved to tears.

We cannot thank you enough, our IJ sisters and members of our fraternities, who travelled from France, Italy, Spain, England, Ireland and even far away Singapore,  to support Klara in her decision.  Your presence assured her that she is not alone as she makes a final commitment in the Institute in these uncertain, complicated, changing times. Your warm welcoming of Klara into the Institute was another moving moment for many who were present.

The celebrant, a Dominican priest, in his homily, full of wisdom, insight and humour, shared with us some research he once did for his Order. Many young candidates had walked away because of “a lack of purpose, mission and vision”.  He encouraged Klara to be daring, courageous, generous and creative and to live her missionary life joyfully to the full, using all her God-given gifts.

For weeks, the preparations went on behind the scenes.  Lubica, a friend who shares our Community life, spent hours making the handcrafted table decorations.   The local parish choir practised the beautiful music chosen for the Liturgy.  A group of young, willing volunteers,  prepared the tables  and on the day served the guests in the nearby church hall.  Many made cakes and other dishes to share.  The celebration was a joyful, relaxed event,  gathering families, friends, colleagues and parishioners, neighbours and people we meet in our ministry.   All were happy to be with us and  to support us on this important day for Klara and for our little IJ Community in Brno.  We thank you all.

We thank God for Klara, and her family for their generous sacrifice. We thank all of you who sent good wishes or were united with us in prayer at this time.

Many of our IJ sisters who were present expressed their sense of being refreshed, of having their faith and hope in the Institute renewed, of reliving their own first enthusiasm.
For some it was a feeling that, at last, we are savouring “the new wine”!
We can only thank God and sing “Magnificat, Magnificat, Magnificat”.
