Lent is the season of grace, where the Lord draws us once more to himself. It is the season of conversion, a time of opportunities.
In the words of Pope Francis:
'Fast from hurting words and say kind words
Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude
Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope
Fast from worries and trust in God
Fast from bitterness and fill your heart with joy
Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others
Fast from grudges and be reconciled
Fast from words, be silent, so you can listen’.
Lent is a time to pause, to prayerfully read a Gospel passage each day so that it can find a home in your heart and in your actions.
Challenging words from Nicolas Barré in Maxim 159 to All people:
‘If we follow in the footsteps of Jesus we will become poor, dejected, worthless in the eyes of the world. In letting go, accepting negative criticism, harassment and every form of misfortune on earth, we become like Jesus and thus draw closer to God by a way that is sure. We will then be enriched from his abundance’.
‘Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new spirit within me’. Psalm 51:10
