The mission in Malaya was founded in 1852. It is the first mission on foreign soil after the founding of the Institute in France almost two hundred years earlier in 1662. The IJ Sisters were one of the pioneers in formal and non-formal education in Malaya. The first IJ Convent School, as well as the Orphanage, was established in Light Street, Penang and others soon followed.

Today the mission continues to serve the Church and the People of God through education and faith formation in learning centres, pastoral/parish work, homes for differently-abled women, youth apostolate, prayer ministry and in various fields where human and spiritual development is needed. Currently we are present in:-

  • Kuala Lumpur (Bukit Nanas, Cheras, Kepong

  • Selangor (Desa Mentari, Batu Arang, Bukit Beruntung)

  • Negeri Sembilan (Seremban), Melaka (Taman Bakti)

  • Pahang (Cameron Highlands)

  • Perak (Teluk Intan, Sitiawan)

  • Penang (Waterfall & Bukit Mertajam)

  • Sabah (Sook, 5 other villages).
