The Church celebrated just a few days ago the Canonization of two young men in Rome, namely, Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis.
Listening to Pope Leo’s homily, he highlighted their qualities and virtues: ‘Both in love with Jesus and ready to give everything for him; the joy of living and of being a Christian in prayer, friendship and charity’. They lived the ordinary in an extraordinary way.
Their faith was not a private devotion but was driven by the power of the Gospel and their generosity towards the needy. Both cultivated their love for God, for their brothers and sisters through simple acts, available to everyone: daily Mass, prayer, kindness, really seeing God in all.
Our Book of the Institute (N° 5) invites us ‘to give priority to the poor, with particular attention to young people. Teach them the way of salvation while at the same time giving them a human formation which is essential if they are to live according to their dignity as children of God’.
Let us continue to invite young people not to waste their lives. To accompany them with affection and confidence in this difficult/changing world.
Like the workers in the vineyard who had worked for a short time, these two young saints received the reward of an extraordinary life.
