'Anyone who drinks...'

‘Anyone who drinks the water that I shall give will never be thirsty’ (John 2: 7)

Water is essential in both our everyday lives and our spiritual life. Without water there would be no life. Water represents wisdom, peace, purity and the interconnectedness of all living things.

We all experience the joy and refreshment of water: drinking, cooking, washing cleaning, showering, gardening.

Stop and think of the beauty that water reveals to us in ocean, river, lake, waterfall..

It is only when you live in an area where water is scarce, one realizes its value. At the same time, too much or too little can have devestating effects.

Along with the many needs of water as mentioned, there is also the deeper thirst for: belonging, being loved, for justice, for peace, sustainability, for God.

At our General Chapter in 2025, we were inspired by the Samaritan woman’s transformative encounter with Jesus at the well and became aware that at times we are both the thirst and the water.

In a world that is thirsting, let us share God’s life-giving Water with our brothers and sisters.

Oh, come to the water all you who are thirsty  (Isiah 55:1)
