For over twenty-five years, the Women’s Vocational Training Centre, managed by our Infant Jesus Sisters, has been a beacon of hope for young girls and women across five dioceses in the Jos Ecclesiastical Province. By welcoming students from rural areas and providing them with literacy in Hausa and English alongside practical trades, the Centre is transforming lives through education and economic independence.
This year marks a significant turning point as eighteen graduates completed their training with a new advantage: government-recognized certification. Students now sit for a national "Trade Test" that validates their practical skills. This formal qualification significantly enhances their chances of getting employment and gives them the confidence to launch their own businesses, strengthening the overall credibility of the training program.
Innovation and Production
The Centre operates on a unique model that combines hands-on learning with sustainable

production. Currently, students gain expertise while supporting the institution through several activities:
Textiles: Sewing school uniforms, knitting cardigans, and using monogram machines for custom T-shirts.
Liturgical Arts: Crafting vestments such as chasubles, stoles, and albs.
Catering & Eco-products: Producing cakes, natural seasonings, and eco-friendly charcoal.
These initiatives ensure that students master their craft while generating the income necessary to keep the training affordable and ongoing.
Vision for the Future
The Centre is not standing still. Plans are underway to introduce "Smart Agriculture and Poultry Farming" to equip women with modern food production skills. Furthermore, a "Smart Shop" will soon be established to market products made at the Centre, increasing visibility and long-term sustainability.
This mission of empowerment is made possible through the dedicated support of Most Rev. Michael Charles Hammawa, the Infant Jesus Sisters, and many others. By giving these women better life opportunities, the Centre is not just helping individuals; it is strengthening families and entire communities.
