At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, one of our sisters was sent to the Bangkok community in Thailand, in a completely confined city. She recounts this particular experience.
‘About fifty families of day labourers, hard hit by the health measures, no longer had enough to eat. I felt powerless in the face of this situation. As Providence would have it, I spoke to one of my friends." She immediately assured me that she would provide for the basic needs of these families, particularly in terms of food. Since then, every month she has sent me rice, packets of instant noodles, tinned food and eggs. When I asked her what had motivated her to help these people so far, she replied: ‘I feel a sense of solidarity with these people who are suffering and by doing so, I give meaning to my life’. (...) She sees God in every person and in everything she does. She believes that people of goodwill can, together, build a more united world.
‘Love frees us from self-seeking, attachment to our own ideas, and excessive preoccupation with the future. Love urges us to a total giving of ourselves with confidence and serenity of mind’ (Book of the Institute 24).
