Recently we heard the story of the Wise Men/The Magi, as we celebrated the feast of the Epiphany. They followed the star to Bethlehem to kneel and to pay homage to the new born king, Jesus. They offered him precious gifts.
Beginning a New Year offers us many opportunities.
Every day, I too can pay homage. From the treasure chest of my life, I can offer my gifts : my gratitude, my desire to grow more lovingly, my longing to be true. I offer my hope for all that God promises.
Every day I offer my desire to live justly, my commitment to be generous, my wish to reach out to others.
Fr. Nicolas Barré in Letter 36 wrote : Let your life be characterized by Wonder, Adoration, Silence, Humility and Love.
Dwell on Wonder, allowing yourself to be taken over by a sense of awe at the sight of God reaching out to you. Reflect on the mystery and wonder of being chosen by God as you begin each new day.
Bow down in Adoration before God whose greatness exceeds all that we could ever imagine.
Pay attention to inner Silence which means trying to quieten the thoughts, emotions or impulses which can lead to anxiety.
Seek to live your life in a spirit of Humility. Pray for the grace to say thanks when you are not offered the first place or recognised for what you have done.
Above all, reflect on the immensity of God’s unique and personal Love for you.
Prayer: ‘The Lord bless you and keep you;
The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you;
The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace’
