Nicolas Barré Memorial in the former Minim monastery in Rouen (France)

The Minim monks left France during the Revolution of 1789 and their numerous monasteries, which became the property of the State, ceased to exist. Only one remains today: the one where Father Nicolas Barré lived, in Rouen. Since 1802, it has been a monastery of Benedictine sisters.
A memorial to the presence of the Minims and to Blessed Nicolas Barré has been established there, and intended to become a well-documented place of pilgrimage. On 10 October 2026, the inauguration, presided over by the Archbishop of Rouen, Mgr Dominique Lebrun, and the Superior General of the Minims, Fr Gregorio Colatorti, took place in the presence of a large crowd with delegations from France and abroad. Sr Marina Motta, Superior General of the Sisters of the E.J. Nicolas Barré, and Sr Angèle Marie Vololoniaina, Superior General of the Sisters of the E.J. Providence of Rouen, warmly thanked all those involved in bringing this project to fruition.
The Memorial is open to both tourists and pilgrims at 14 Rue Bourg l’Abbé, on the corner of Rue des Minimes.
