Nicolas Barré Road...

At the initiative of Saint-Nicolas’ Association, the road leading to the church in Acquafredda (Calabria) was named ‘Blessed Nicolas Barré’ on Tuesday 20 May, in the presence of the civil and religious authorities. A fitting recognition of the gratitude of the local community for the work of the Sisters of the Infant Jesus in this region for 50 years!

Sister Erminia, along with other sisters, have been carrying out missionary work in Acquafredda since 1975, at the invitation of the Minims of Saint Francis of Paola. This mission was later extended to other mountainous areas above Sambiase di Lamezia Terme, which was difficult to access due to the almost impassable roads, and where the population felt abandoned. There were no churches and the priests, who were also busy in town, could not provide a constant presence. 'Today, times have changed and the situation is much better, says Sr Caterina. A church dedicated to Our Lady of the Miracle was built several years ago. All this has been possible thanks to the faithful and humble presence of many sisters who have enthusiastically taken turns over the years to devote their time and energy to making Jesus Christ known and loved to the people of these small mountain villages'.

The ceremony was attended by a large enthusiastic and fervent crowd.
