In the heart of Northern Thailand, the Infant Jesus Chiangkong School has become more than a center for academic excellence; it is a sanctuary where the next generation of environmental stewards begins to bloom. Grounded in the belief that education is the fertile ground for responsibility, the school is awakening a soul-deep reverence for God’s creation among its students.
The school’s mission is woven into the fabric of daily life through the "Bright Minds, Green Hearts" initiative. Students are empowered to "think before they act," practicing the 6R discipline to maximize the value of every resource. This approach ensures that sustainability becomes a natural instinct rather than a simple classroom task.
Environmental Care in Action
The "Green Journey" at Chiangkong is characterized by hands-on, joyful learning, starting from the earliest years:
Learning by Doing: In Kindergarten, children learn the rhythm of responsibility by growing morning glory and coriander. They nurture these crops from seed to harvest, eventually enjoying their own produce in healthy school lunches.
Creative Upcycling: Sustainability meets creativity as students transform used bottles into "Magic Watering Cans," decorated with their own drawings to give new life to old materials.
Waste Mastery: Through interactive games, even the youngest learners master the art of waste categorization using a 4-colour bin system.
Embracing the Miracle of Life
Beyond the traditional classroom, students participate in the "Virtue Camp," where they immerse themselves in the vibrant classroom of nature. By tending to mushrooms and vegetables, and raising chickens, frogs, and fish, they witness the miracle of life firsthand. This experience is designed to teach them the intrinsic value of every creature God has made, grounding them in their role as humble stewards of creation.
Through these mindful actions, the Infant Jesus Chiangkong School is building a more beautiful "Common Home," one heart at a time. By teaching youth to cherish every drop of water and every handful of soil, the school is ensuring a lifelong legacy of protection and honor for the beauty of our world.
